Obituary for Quinten Johnson
Quinten Carl Johnson Passed away on Saturday (April 14, 2012) at the age of 92.
He was a life-long resident of Hazel Hurst, where he was born on September 28, 1919, and spent the last several years at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport.
Quinten was the son of Henning and Blanch Johnson and brother of Paul, all of whom preceded him in death. On December 14, 1940, he married Betty Timmerman to whom he was married for nearly 70 years until her death in December 2010.
Quinten retired in 1982 from the B&O Railroad as a signal maintainer. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving in the European and North African Theater during World War II as a gunner's mate aboard the USS Savannah.
Quinten was a member of the Hazel Hurst United Methodist Church, life member of the Hamlin Twp. Fire Dept., and the Mt. Jewett American Legion Post 574. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing and, especially, devoted himself unselfishly to his beloved wife, Betty, and his children.
He is survived by a daughter, Dianna (Frank) Blair of Fairfield; two sons, Ted of Tallahassee, FL and Roger (Tammy) Johnson of Jesse, WV; four grandchildren, Douglas (Jodie) Blair, Michelle (Gary) Blair-Carter, Nathan Johnson and Sheena Johnson; three step grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua and Cortnee; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 5-7 P.M. Friday at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Hazel Hurst United Methodist Church with the Rev. W. Craig Smith, pastor, officiating. Following the service, he will be buried alongside Betty at the Nebo Cemetery attended by a military honor guard.
